Job Description
You will be working deputy manager of the MTD Oil & Petrochemical laboratory. This will involve coordinating closely with the laboratory manager to assist in the day-to-day running of the laboratory and undertaking analytical testing of oil, gas and petrochemical products, including organising and performing analysis under joint witnessed conditions, preparing test certificates, overseeing staff training and maintaining laboratory equipment and ISO 17025 accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
The list below provides an overview of the key responsibilities of the role:
- Undertake analysis, report findings and prepare certificates ensuring their compliance with the appropriate test method and accreditation requirements.
- To plan detailed analyses for each job, select methods of analysis, and identify particular quality control requirements.
- Carry out validation of instruments/methods where necessary.
- Implement new test methods and oversee the participation in collaborative trials, round robins etc.
- Undertake literature searches for methods and technical review of methods for consultants.
- Oversee training of staff and assist with coordination of staffing resources for analyses.
- Undertake delegated administrative duties as assigned for the day-to-day functioning of the laboratory.
- To assist the laboratory manager in coordinating and managing joint analyses, in conjunction with external clients and consultants.
MTD’s Requirements
- Degree qualification in Chemistry.
- Previous experience in a Team Leader/Supervisor role in an oil and petrochemicals laboratory.
- Familiarity with the routine testing of petroleum products and petrochemicals to international standard test methods; experience of testing bunker fuels, aviation fuel, gasoline and diesel is essential.
- Previous experience of implementing new standard test methods in a laboratory and using non-standard procedures for investigative purposes.
- Previous experience of performing joint analyses under witnessed conditions.
- Experience of maintaining and overseeing quality control systems within an oil and petrochemicals laboratory setting; experience with ISO 17025 and of managing corrective actions from audits is essential.
- Experience of managing laboratory equipment procurement and instrument calibration.
- Excellent communication skills, both written reports and in meetings with clients.
- Highly motivated, can do attitude.
