James has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Surrey. Prior to joining MTD, James worked at the BP Centre for Petroleum and Surface Chemistry during his undergraduate studies. He was involved in the Enhanced Oil Recovery team, investigating novel techniques to enhance the performance of heavy oil recovery from tar sands by Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage.
Since joining MTD in 2016, James has been involved in various investigations of petroleum products and chemical contamination claims for a range of clients in South East Asia. These have mainly concerned cargo contamination claims and quality disputes. He has gained training and hands on experience working across South East Asia, attending at both external laboratories and on board vessels. He has also gained training and experience in MTD’s laboratories in Cardiff working on developing in-house techniques for identifying the components within fuel oils.
